Lived on Sea Island: 39 years

Board Member since: Many years starting around 1985 with a couple of breaks.

What inspired you to join the SICA Board?

To meet my neighbours and help create a fun, supportive community.

What would you personally like to work on with SICA?

Special events and programming as I believe that is where the community comes together and grows stronger.

What do you think SICA should be working on and be trying to accomplish as a group?

Getting more people involved so that we share the workload and the fun of being part of this community. Becoming more a voice for the community.

    A bit more about Barbara:

When we bought our first house here in 1985, we only planned to stay for a couple of years, but we soon discovered what a great community this is and a wonderful place to bring up children. 38 years later we are still here! Our children, now in their thirties, participated in parent and tots, attended Burky’s and the elementary school. We have all formed special friendships in the community that will last a lifetime. I want to help keep Burkeville the special place it is for the next generation.

What inspired you to join the SICA Board?

I love Burkeville. We moved here with the intent of raising kids in a neighbourhood where we know our neighbours.

What would you personally like to work on with SICA?

Our two kids have benefitted from all the yearly events and I now have time to help those events continue to build up this community.

Programs and events. I want to keep events going and continue to draw this community together through them.

What do you think SICA should be working on and be trying to accomplish as a group?

Keeping our community strong and sustainable. We are unique and keeping us that way requires persistent strength and flexibility with changing times.

    A bit more about Jenny:

Married 12 years to the best teammate I could ask for, Peter.

Our 10 year old son, Braeden, spent 2 years at Burky's and then had his Kindergarten year at Sea Island Elementary before it closed. He is kind and helpful and is already begging for volunteer jobs at events.

Our 6 year old, Caileigh, believes in magic to her very core. She counts the months until Burkeville Daze Pony rides. She asks how soon the Easter Egg hunt is. They are the highlights of her childhood.

I was a full time Paramedic in Richmond but made the hard decision to leave 4 years ago and be fully invested in the raising of our family. A decision that has served us well.
